Charlie Rivel, 1896-1983. José Andreu Lasserre was an internationally known Spanish circus clown. He was born in Cubelles (Barcelona, Spain). His family were street entertainers, and he made his debut at the age of three. Together with his brothers Polo Rivel and René Rivel he formed the group Trio Rivels. He took his artistic first name from his friend Charlie Chaplin. From the book “We are all equal”, by Finn Nygaard. Author Elsebeth Aasted Schanz, PhD, Manager and curator of the Danish Poster Museum.
