Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, 1918-2014, was a South African anti-apartheid activist, revolutionary and politician who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999, the first to be elected in a fully representative, multiracial election. His administration focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid and combating racism, poverty and inequality.
