The Pierrot figure can probably be traced right back to the mimes of the Graeco-Roman culture around 300 BC, as a figure made up in white with a shaved head. In 1611, Pedrolino appeared in the masked Italian Commedia dell’arte theatre, and he is in many ways similar to the figure we know today. Pierrot made his entry in Denmark in 1800, when Pasquale Casorti settled in the country with his troupe of Italians. From the book “We are all equal”, by Finn Nygaard.
